Things That Might Have Been

Another in a long line of breakups.  I had had enough.  Really had it.  I did one of those things where you tell yourself to appreciate what you have and forget about the past.  I'm counting all my blessings, that was my first thought.  Took off from there.  Can't say it was entirely believable at first to me but it did help and got me a few more miles down the road.

I’M COUNTING ALL MY BLESSINGS

I’M THANKING ALL MY FRIENDS

I’M TRYING TO REMEMBER

HOW TO LOVE AGAIN

I’M LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

I’M LETTING THE SUNSHINE IN

CAUSE I AIN’T GOT NO USE

FOR THE THINGS THAT MIGHT’VE BEEN

I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING

ANOTHER DAY BEGINS

I LOOK INTO THE MIRROR

AND PRACTICE HOW TO SMILE AGAIN

I CAN SMELL THE ROSES

AND I CAN FEEL THE WIND

AND I AINT GOT NO USE FOR THE THINGS THAT MIGHT’VE BEEN

BRIDGE

READ YOUR LETTER FOR THE LAST TIME

BURNED IT UP AND HAD A GOOD CRY

TOOK THE ASHES TO THE RIVER

MADE A WISH AND TOSSED THEM IN

I LAY DOWN IN THE EVENING

LET THE DREAMS ROLL IN

LAST NIGHT I DREAMED THAT I HAD

LEARNED HOW TO LOVE AGAIN

I GUESS SOMETIMES YOU LOSE

AND THEN SOMETIMES YOU WIN

AND I AIN’T GOT  NO USE FOR THE THINGS THAT MIGHT’VE BEEN

BRIDGE

TOOK A WALK DOWN BY THE OLD SCHOOL

SAW THAT SWING WHERE I FIRST KISSED YOU

I SAT DOWN AND I SWUNG SO HIGH

I LET GO AND FLEW AWAY

I LAY DOWN IN THE EVENING…
